Getting The Maximum Out Of Minimal

Electronically Adjustable Exhaust For BMW R nineT: The Urban

At a glance the R nineT looks stripped back to the essentials, but there are more than 90 years of BMW engineering underneath it, with the boxer sitting right at the center of the design. The Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde Urban is built to match, an electronically adjustable exhaust with three selectable sound modes.

Our engineers redesigned the Urban from the ground up, using the character of the boxer as the guideline for every mode. Keep it calm and low-key in Dr. Jekill for city streets and early mornings, add presence with Dynamic, then open it fully to Mr. Hyde and hear what the twin has been holding back.

The R nineT has always been a blank canvas, so the Urban is built to be specified rather than simply bolted on. Choose a lower or an upper version, a Pearl Grey or Black body, and your end cap, so the exhaust reads as part of the bike instead of an accessory hung off the side of it.

Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde electronic valve technology lets you change the sound on the fly, so one premium exhaust gives you three distinct personalities from a single button on the handlebar. Backed by a 4-year warranty.

The Valve

The Three Sound Modes

With the valve closed, Dr. Jekill mode keeps the R nineT quiet enough to disappear into traffic. Ideal for a garage start before the block is awake, a commute you make every day, or anywhere the last thing you want is attention. Still has character, just keeps it to itself.

Control At Your Fingertips

Switch Modes From The Handlebar

The button controls the valve inside the Urban. One push opens and closes the valve, and a double tap sets it to the half open position, so you can move through all three sound modes without ever taking your hands off the bars.

The Urban

Lower Exhaust

The lower version mounts down along the frame and fits the R nineT, R nineT Pure, and R nineT Racer. It keeps the stock lines of the bike and leaves the back end clean, so the look barely changes while the sound does. Available in Pearl Grey or Black, with your choice of end cap.

The Urban

Upper Exhaust

The upper version mounts high alongside the tail, which lifts the whole back end of the bike and puts the exhaust where you can see it. It suits a scrambler build and any R nineT that came with the high mounted setup from the factory. Available in Pearl Grey or Black, with your choice of end cap.

Sound Check

Hear All Three Sound Modes

Headphones or a good speaker recommended.

  • Dr. Jekill Valve closed. Quiet enough for an early start or a daily commute, without drawing attention.
  • Dynamic Valve half open. Real presence and a harder edge on the throttle, civil enough to run all day.
  • Mr. Hyde Valve wide open. The 1200cc boxer at full voice, loud, raw, and mechanical.

Why Sound Control Matters

One Exhaust, Every Setting From Whisper To Roar

The R nineT gets ridden everywhere, from a weekday commute to an empty road on a Sunday morning, and one fixed volume cannot cover all of it. The Urban gives you the full range on demand, so the bike can stay quiet where it needs to and open right up where it does not.

1

Easy In Traffic

Close the valve for stop and go commuting so a bike you ride every day never becomes the loudest thing on the street.

2

Better For Your Passenger

Whoever is on the back sits right where the exhaust carries, so a quieter setting makes two-up riding far more pleasant.

3

Respect The Quiet

Drop to a hush for early departures, late arrivals, shared garages, and any street where people are still asleep.

4

Unleash The Boxer

Open it to Mr. Hyde and let the 1200cc twin run raw and mechanical, the way the R nineT always should have sounded.

Questions Before You Order?

Here are the most common questions about the Urban, the Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde adjustable exhaust for the BMW R nineT.

Start with how your bike is set up now. The lower version runs down along the frame and matches the R nineT, R nineT Pure, and R nineT Racer as they left the factory. The upper version mounts high alongside the tail.

Both come in Pearl Grey or Black with a choice of end cap. If you are unsure which one your bike takes, contact us before ordering and we will confirm it with you.

No tune is required on a stock bike. BMW motorcycles run a sophisticated ECU with closed loop fueling, and the O2 sensors read the change in airflow through the Urban. The ECU adjusts fuel delivery automatically to match, so the bike adapts to the new exhaust on its own.

If you currently have additional performance products installed, such as an intake or fueling change, we recommend asking your motorcycle mechanic or shop. You can also contact us and we will help point you in the right direction.

Yes. You can change the valve position and ride in any sound mode at any point in time.

Switch between Dr. Jekill, Dynamic, and Mr. Hyde mode from the handlebar control, giving you quiet control when you need it and a stronger exhaust note when you want it.

The Urban is an electronically adjustable exhaust available in street-legal configurations where applicable, designed around the stock setup of the motorcycle.

Street legality can depend on where you live and ride, so please check your local laws and requirements. If you have any questions, contact us before ordering and we can help point you in the right direction.

Please refer to the installation video online or the supplied paper instructions that come in the kit, so you always have two references to work from.

For a competent mechanic, installation is straightforward. Installation time can vary depending on tools, experience, and the condition of the motorcycle.

Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde® systems are premium exhaust systems built around advanced engineering, high quality materials, precise fitment, refined finishes, and electronically adjustable sound control.

Each system is developed specifically for the motorcycle and built with advanced components, including an electronically controlled valve system that gives you multiple sound modes at the push of a button.

The adjustable sound control also gives you something a permanently loud exhaust cannot, flexibility. You can fly under the radar when the situation calls for it, keep the sound controlled in neighborhoods and noise sensitive areas, help avoid expensive noise violation citations, and stay on your neighbors’ good side. When the time and place are right, you can switch to a deeper, more aggressive sound with the push of a button.

You are not just buying a muffler or another exhaust system. You are investing in premium engineering, advanced technology, model specific development, everyday flexibility, and a 4 year warranty.

Everything needed for installation, except for tools and time, comes inside the box.

The system includes the required exhaust components, electronic valve technology, handlebar control components, paper instructions, and hardware for the selected configuration.
