Make Every Beat Count
Electronically Adjustable Exhaust For BMW R18: The Beat
The BMW R18 brought the big boxer back to the cruiser world, and the 1800cc twin deserves to be heard. The Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde The Beat is built for it, an electronically adjustable exhaust with three selectable sound modes, available in street-legal configurations where applicable.
Our sound engineers used the character of the boxer engine as the guideline for every mode. Roll through town in a calm, low-key Dr. Jekill setting, add presence with Dynamic mode, then open it up to Mr. Hyde for a deep, rolling rumble that turns heads at every stoplight.
The Beat looks nothing like the stock system or the usual aftermarket options. Choose between a short and a long version, in black, chrome, or the dark chrome finish, with 4.0" end caps in several styles plus a custom link pipe and heat shield to match.
Available for the R18 First Edition, Classic, Roctane, R18 B, and Transcontinental. Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde electronic valve technology lets you change the sound on the fly, so one premium exhaust gives you three distinct personalities from a single button on the handlebar. Backed by a 4-year warranty.
Build Your Own
The Valve
The Three Sound Modes
With the valve closed, Dr. Jekill mode keeps your R18 calm and low-key. Low enough for an early morning start, a slow roll through the neighborhood, or a long stretch of highway where you just want the ride and the scenery. Still distinctive, never intrusive.
Control At Your Fingertips
Switch Modes From The Handlebar
The button controls the valve inside The Beat. One push opens and closes the valve, and a double tap sets it to the half open position, so you can move through all three sound modes without ever taking your hands off the bars.
The Beat
Short Exhaust
The shorter body tucks in tight against the frame and leaves the back of the bike open, which is what most bobber builds are after. The tone is harder edged on the throttle and settles into a heavy idle. Available in black, chrome, and dark chrome.
Note: the Short version is not offered for the R18 B or R18 Transcontinental.
The Beat
Long Exhaust
The longer body gives the boxer more volume to work with, which produces a deeper, fuller tone and keeps highway droning to a minimum. Its proportions follow the classic lines of the R18, so it looks like part of the bike rather than an add-on. Available in black, chrome, and dark chrome.

Sound Check
Hear All Three Sound Modes
Headphones or a good speaker recommended.
- Dr. Jekill Valve closed. Calm and low-key, quiet enough for an early start or a slow roll through town.
- Dynamic Valve half open. More weight and presence than Dr. Jekill, without shouting about it.
- Mr. Hyde Valve wide open. The full 1800cc boxer rumble, felt as much as heard.
Why Sound Control Matters
One Exhaust, Every Setting From Whisper To Roar
The R18 was built around the biggest boxer BMW has ever made, and a bike with that much character should not be stuck at one volume. The Beat puts the whole range at your fingertips, so it can slip through a neighborhood unnoticed or announce itself from a block away, depending on what the moment calls for.
Long Days, No Fatigue
Close the valve for open highway stretches so the miles stay relaxed instead of grinding away at you hour after hour.
Better For Your Passenger
Whoever is on the back sits right where the exhaust carries, so a quieter setting makes two-up riding far more pleasant.
Respect The Quiet
Drop to a hush for early departures, late arrivals, campgrounds, and any street where people are still asleep.
Unleash The Boxer
Open it to Mr. Hyde and let the 1800cc twin deliver the deep, rolling rumble it was always meant to have.
BMW R18 FAQ
Questions Before You Order?
Here are the most common questions about The Beat, the Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde adjustable exhaust for the BMW R18.
The Short suits stripped down and bobber style builds. It tucks in tight, leaves the rear of the bike open, and has a harder edge to the tone. Note that the Short is not offered for the R18 B or R18 Transcontinental.
The Long follows the classic proportions of the R18 and gives the boxer more volume to work with, so the tone sits deeper and stays smooth over long distances. Both versions come in black, chrome, and dark chrome.
No tune is required on a stock bike. BMW motorcycles run a sophisticated ECU with closed loop fueling, and the O2 sensors read the change in airflow through The Beat. The ECU adjusts fuel delivery automatically to match, so the bike adapts to the new exhaust on its own.
If you currently have additional performance products installed, such as an intake or fueling change, we recommend asking your motorcycle mechanic or shop. You can also contact us and we will help point you in the right direction.

Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde® systems are premium exhaust systems built around advanced engineering, high quality materials, precise fitment, refined finishes, and electronically adjustable sound control.
Each system is developed specifically for the motorcycle and built with advanced components, including an electronically controlled valve system that gives you multiple sound modes at the push of a button.
The adjustable sound control also gives you something a permanently loud exhaust cannot, flexibility. You can fly under the radar when the situation calls for it, keep the sound controlled in neighborhoods and noise sensitive areas, help avoid expensive noise violation citations, and stay on your neighbors’ good side. When the time and place are right, you can switch to a deeper, more aggressive sound with the push of a button.
You are not just buying a muffler or another exhaust system. You are investing in premium engineering, advanced technology, model specific development, everyday flexibility, and a 4 year warranty.
Everything needed for installation, except for tools and time, comes inside the box.
The system includes the required exhaust components, the custom link pipe and heat shield, electronic valve technology, handlebar control components, paper instructions, and hardware for the selected configuration.
